Wood construction is a sustainable choice

Building with wood is an effective way to reduce the climate impact of construction. Wood is a naturally renewable, recyclable and carbon-sequestering building material. When wood is used as a building element, it retains the carbon it has absorbed from the atmosphere as it grows. New growth, in turn, continues to sequester carbon, making responsible forest management and wood construction an effective part of the fight against climate change.

LapWall has a negative carbon footprint. This means that our products sequester more carbon emissions than we produce.

The use of wood in construction needs to be increased

Building with wood is an effective way to cut life-cycle emissions from construction

  • Carbon sequestration in the material: it is estimated that one cubic metre of wood sequesters about 0.9 tonnes of CO₂
  • A life-cycle-efficient option: instead of non-renewable building materials, timber structures offer both lower production emissions and a long-term carbon pool.
  • Wood construction is a safe option: in terms of fire safety, wood construction is a safe option for building users. In addition, the use of wood helps to improve indoor air quality.

The solution matters

LapWall wood elements - a tangible climate impact

LapWall's LEKO® elements absorb around 21 kg of carbon dioxide per square metre over their lifetime. Considering LapWall's annual production, this is equivalent to about 50 million kilometres driven by car - a significant climate action!

LapWall is leading the way in its industry and is actively developing carbon negative business practices:

  • Material Efficiency
  • Modern production technology
  • Digital solutions

Our goal is to play a key role in Finland's progress towards carbon neutrality. At the same time, we help our customers to reduce the harmful environmental impact of their own operations.
