Metsä Wood's Kerto LVL Factory in Äänekoski – 47,700 m² Roof Constructed Using LapWall's Large Roof Elements

LapWall supplied large prefabricated roof elements to SRV for Metsä Wood's Kerto LVL factory in Äänekoski, Finland. The factory project is the largest project delivery in LapWall's history.

SRV served as the main contractor in the project, which was carried out as a collaborative construction management contract. Metsä Wood's new production facility manufactures beam and panel products for the construction industry. The facility has a roof area of approximately 47,700 square metres, equivalent to the area of six full-sized football pitches.

The roof element installation was carried out in challenging conditions during the winter of 2023–2024, with most of the installation work taking place in the depths of winter.

Smooth and Professional Installation

"LapWall's element installation process is extremely efficient. Most of the installation work took place during winter in challenging weather conditions. It was a particularly harsh winter, with freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall. Despite this, both installations and deliveries remained on schedule, and we were even ahead of schedule," says Elias Särkimäki, Area Manager for the SRV project.

"LapWall has exceptional expertise in installation work. The installation plan was of very high quality and clearly outlined everything required. It accounted for the specific details of each installation section. LapWall's approach reflects extensive experience and processes that have been refined over the years," Särkimäki praises.

Protection Against Extreme Weather Conditions

"Thanks to the roof elements, we were able to start working under weather protection very quickly, which was a major advantage compared to roofs built on site. We quickly achieved a watertight roof over a large area, allowing us to proceed with the next construction phases inside the building," explains Elias Särkimäki.

"LapWall has carefully considered moisture management when transporting elements from the factory to the construction site. They use ventilated packaging to deliver the elements, which demonstrates how thoroughly the entire process has been planned," says Elias Särkimäki, highlighting the importance of moisture management in challenging conditions.
